St. Louis e gia un poco un citta dell’Est. Grandi industrie e fabbriche ovunque. Ne ho visitate 3 e grazie ad una raccomandazione ho potuto visitare anche internamente il famoso ponte sul Mississippi, che e realmente un opera d’arte ammirevole. Ho fatto pure una bicilettata nei due enormi parchie che abbelliscono la citta, ed in uno di essi ho trovato una comitiva di operai piemontesi che mi hanno invitato a bere la birra e con cui mi sono trattenuto alquanto.
Finalmente giovedi mattina sono arrivato a Pittsburg donde partiro domattina, domenica 13 alla volta di Buffalo. Ho ricevuto a St. Louis e qui dei giornali speditimi da Carlo, qui ho pure ricevuto una tua cartolina ed una lunga lettera di Ferrero. Ho trovato qui un certo dottor Paladini che avevo conosciuto a Chicago e che mi ha fatto conoscere tutta la colonia italiana. Il dottor Paladini e ora ingegnere capo di un dipartimento della famosa fabbrica di macchine electtriche Westinghouse che ho visitato assai bene. Ho pure visitato un fabbrica di un nuovo prodotto industriale che credo molto importante e di cui spero di poter far dare la rappresentanza in Italia a Gatta e Ferrero. Oggi poi son stato a Bessemer a visitare le famose acciaierie di Carnegie, celebri in tutto il mondo e cosi grande che solo per visitarle ho impiegato piu di tre ore.
St. Louis is a little like a small Eastern city. There are big industries and factories everywhere. I visited three and thanks to a recommendation I was also able to see the inside of the famous bridge over the Mississippi, which is truly an admirable work of art. I also did a bike ride in two huge parks that beautify the city, and in one of the parks I ran into a team of Piemontese workers who invited me to join them for a beer and I spent some time with them [I held myself back?].
Finally, Thursday morning I arrived in Pittsburg where I will leave tomorrow morning, Sunday at 1 o’clock [?] for Buffalo. Here in St. Louis I received the newspapers that Carlo sent me, your post card, and also a long letter from Ferrero. I found a certain Dr. Paladini who I ment in Chicago and who introduced me to all of the italian colony here. Dr. Paladini is a lead engineer in a department of the famous Westinghouse factory which makes electrical machines, and I got the chance to have a good visit. I also visited a factory that makes new industrial products that I think will be very important and which I hope to be able to explain to Gatta and Ferrero in Italy. Today I went to Bessemer to visit Carnegie’s famous steel mills which are celebrated throughout the world and are so big that my visit took me more than two or three hours.
